CKI (Circle K) Scholarship Descriptions

The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation's
Robert H. Andrew District Scholarship

About the scholarship: In recognition of his exceptional support for sponsored programs, especially Circle K, the Pacific Northwest District Foundation named one of its scholarships after Robert H. Andrew in 1995. Bob was a former Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Governor, Circle K Administrator, and Treasurer of the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation.  Scholarship winners are announced at the Circle K District Convention.

Criteria:  This award is based on commitment to community service by a member of a Circle K Club within the Pacific Northwest District.

Scholarship value: $1,500 US

The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation's
Gene O’Brien District Scholarship

About the scholarship: The Pacific Northwest District scholarship named this scholarship after Gene O’Brien, who was a past PNW Kiwanis Governor from 1987-1988.  He was very supportive of both Key Club and Circle K sponsored programs.  The PNW Kiwanis Foundation named this award for him in 2002.  Scholarship winners are announced at the Circle K District Convention.

Criteria:  This award is based on commitment to community service by a member of a Circle K Club within the Pacific Northwest District.

Scholarship value: $1,500 US

The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation's
Patrick Maloney District Scholarship

About the scholarship:  Patrick Maloney was killed by a drunk-driver, en route to the 1988 District Convention.  He was a member of the Pacific University Circle K Club and went to the University of Portland to continue pre-medical studies.  Some of his other interests outside of school were volunteering at the hospital, off-road racing, discovering his Irish heritage, and Circle K.  In 1988, with support from the Pacific Northwest District Alumni Association, a scholarship was established in Patrick's memory.  This scholarship has grown from $250 to its present value of $1,500.  Scholarship winners are announced at the Circle K District Convention.

Criteria:  This award is based on commitment to community service by a member of a Circle K Club within the Pacific Northwest District.

Scholarship value: $1,500 US (increased in 2004/05 from $1,000 in 2003/04)

The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation's
Chuck Clutts District Scholarship

About the scholarship:  In 20004/05, the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation established a fourth Circle K scholarship in memory of Chuck Clutts . Chuck was Governor of the Pacific Northwest District in 1984-1985. He had a distinguished Kiwanis career serving at the Club, Division, District, and International levels. However, he is most noted for his support of the Kiwanis Foundations and his unselfish giving to others.  Chuck will be remembered as a humble Kiwanis leader who used his time, talents, and resources to help improve the quality of life worldwide.  Scholarship winners are announced at the Circle K District Convention.

Criteria:  This award is based on commitment to community service by a member of a Circle K Club within the Pacific Northwest District.

Scholarship value: $1,500 US

The Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation and
Kiwanis International Foundation
Roy E. Fritch Matching Scholarship for Circle K

About the scholarships: The Kiwanis International Foundation and the PNW Kiwanis Foundation jointly fund a $1,000 USD scholarship to a Circle K member attending college or university.  At times the PNW District has qualified for multiple matching scholarships; the number of matching scholarships available within the district is based on the per member level of contributions to the Kiwanis International Foundation.  Scholarship winners are announced at the Circle K International Convention.

Since 2007, one matching scholarship per year has been named for Roy Fritch.  Roy Fritch was a member of Kiwanis for 60 years, a charter member of the Snohomish club and a past Kiwanis Lt. Governor (1965).  He was also a a member of the Circle K Fraternity.  The CK Fraternity – instituted in 1936 – was the brainchild of Past International President Jay Emerson and was the origin of Circle K International (CKI).

Criteria:  This award is based on commitment to community service by a member of a Circle K Club within the Pacific Northwest District.

Scholarship value: $1,000 US
